Clan of the Camper Roster

The Clan of the Camper roster was created and designed by Red Baron [CotC] in April of 2003. Individual members are responsible for entering their personal data into the roster. Inactive members are removed, and retired members or Veterans remain listed for life.

Organizational Structure

As noted elsewhere on this site, the Clan of the Camper has developed organizational prowess over the years, often restructuring itself, and adapting as the years progress. The organization was first modeled after military squads in 1996, after Imperial Rome in 1998, and this structure has existed since. Major changes were implemented in 2001 and again in 2005. A decaffeinated graphical overview has been prepared for sampling: Current Organizational Structure

Camping Legions Overview

The cadre of membership from which legio is formed is referred to as the legionary. Legio then becomes a reference to an ambigious grouping of members, whereas as reference to a legion is specific, as in the "Ping of Death Legion." Each legion may also have multiple centuries each with a Centurion and associated intelligence and strategic positions. Placing members into organized groups allows for the creation of gaming teams, other clans may call these squads, etc.

The Clan Of The Camper mandates that any recognized gaming team or "legion" must field no less than four members with no maximum limitation on enlistment. Legions are formed based upon enlistment, and volunteer patterns. Legions are formed and disbanded or simply retire to become veterans, and then sit around the Senate telling war stories.

From time to time leadership will create a cell. A cell is a grouping of members, typically smaller than a legion, to be organized for a single task, and then disbanded.

Camping legions of the Clan Of The Camper are also mandated to maintain a major concentration. Concentrations are the sole descretion of the legion members. Concentrations are subject to genre evolution, or changing demands of the legion. For example, the "Ping of Death Legion" concentrated on Quake and Quakeworld from 1997 through 1999, but then changed to address first person shooters, and role playing games.

Camping legions may also be formed through alliances or through auxillary components. For instance, an ally may wish to exchange squads for a specific amount of time, wherein during that time period the allied squad reports directly to our leadership, or vice versa. Likewise, auxillary components may be formed by other gaming organizations disbanding, and their members being accepted as a legion operating under the [CotC] Chevron; however, all major additions and formations are the exclusive domain of leadership guided by the Constitution and Senate.

Over the years, the Clan of the Camper has benefited from widely diverse and large legion formations. On several occasions entire teams have entered the clan largely intact as an operational unit, and the marriage has benefited both. Still other times, with or without consent, legions have given birth to other organizations which have competed against us or been reintegrated over time.

Definition of Combatant and Non-Combatant

Clan of the Camper will always specify, by way of forming Legions, which games they officially support for play. A game is deemed to be officially supported the moment a Legion is formed which focuses on said game.

At the request of the Senate and when 4 or more members currently focus on a game, the Talon will form a Legion for said game. This is done simply by someone posting a motion to create a Legion on the Senate Floor and having 3 others digitally signing the motion by replying to it with Aye.

Those members who choose to focus play on any of the games which Clan of the Camper officially supports will be designated as a Combatant and fall under the command of the Talon.

Those members who choose to focus play on games not officially supported by the Clan of the Camper are free to do so but are designated as Non-Combatant and fall under the command of the Ghandi.

Combatant Legions

Clan of the Camper will field no less than 1 Legion for each game it officially supports for play. Legions are specific to one game and one game only and the Legions must specify clearly which game they are focused on.

Additional Legions may be created for a game that already has a Legion focused on it, but only if the currently existing Legion exceeds 19 members. This is optional and there is no set maximum size limit for Legions. If a new Legion is being created the already existing Legion cannot be downsized beyond 13 members.

Each Legion will be officially known by its number. Legions are numbered according to the lowest available number at the time of creation and this number never changes after creation. In the event of a Legion disbanding then that Legion's number becomes available for use again.

Each Legion shall provide a familiar name in addition to its numeric name, this name is chosen by the Legatus. The familiar name can be anything so long as does not contain offensive language. For purposes of deciding if a name is offensive the Talon must approve a Legion's familiar name.

In addition to these two names, each Legion shall clearly specify on the roster which game (i.e., concentration) they focus on.

In the event that a Legion's population shrinks below 4 members, the Legatus may elect to disband the Legion. Those members still within the disbanding Legion will be transferred to the Non-Combatant Legion. From there they may elect to transfer elsewhere as is their right.

Each Legion is required to schedule one event for its members per month. The Legatus should work with the rest of the Legion to ensure the event works with everyone's schedules. The Legatus must post notice of the event in the Clan Events forum no less than 7 days in advance so that all members of the Clan of the Camper are informed and may choose to attend. If the Legatus wishes he or she may mark the event as private on the Clan Events forum and ask that members outside the Legion do not attend. Those with higher rank than Legatus may elect to attend private events but must only spectate them unless asked to participate.
